HTC Thunderbolt: Early favorite for best smartphone of 2011 | Tech Sanity Check | TechRepublic.com
The hype swirling around the HTC Thunderbolt has been building since last fall when rumors first emerged of an HTC EVO-like Android device that was coming to Verizon. Then, that developed into the expectation of a high-powered HTC device would be featured at CES as one of Verizon’s first LTE 4G smartphones. HTC only fueled the hype with its huge billboard at CES (see below) proclaiming, “It’s not your dream phone. It’s the one after that. Coming 1/6/11.”

The 5 Dumbest Management Concepts of All Time | BNET
It’s a truism that “nothing is certain in this world except death, taxes and bad management.” But why? Why does bad management remain so pervasive, even after decades of MBA courses, millions of management books, and billions spent on management training?
The root of the problem lies in five basic management concepts that became popular in the 20th century and continue to propagate stupidity. As long as the business world kowtows to these obsolete management concepts, we’ll be plagued by managers who screw up.
Some of these concepts are dearly held panaceas for much of the business world. Even so, they were ill-considered and ill-conceived from the start, and should be jettisoned for the good of everybody.
Video: Google's live demo of Android 3.0 Honeycomb at CES | Tech Sanity Check | TechRepublic.com
Google made a surprise appearance at Verizon’s CES 2011 keynote on Thursday, and it turned out to be the hit of the event. Google provided a 10-minute live demo of Android 3.0 Honeycomb in action, running on the Motorola Xoom tablet.
I was sitting in the front row at the event and took this video clip of nearly the entire demo. It cuts off just 30 seconds before the demo ended, but the only thing missing is a brief video call over GoogleTalk and an abrupt closing.
Today’s show-and-tell was a much longer, more in-depth, and more impromptu demo than the 93-second video that Google released on YouTube yesterday. Google actually explains the UI, talks about some of its design decisions, shows how to navigate the tablet interface, and shows off a few of the new tablet-optimized apps.
You can watch the embedded video below or view the HD version on YouTube.

Five Top Mobile Device Risks and How to Protect Your Business | ITBusinessEdge.com
Sue Marquette Poremba has written many times about how the mobile office increases security risks, particularly via the devices that enable us to work from home or coffee shops or hotel rooms.
ISACA, a leading global association for enterprise governance of IT, also sees the risks involved with mobile devices. The organization recently published a white paper, Securing Mobile Devices. Sue spoke with Mark Lobel, principal, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and ISACA white paper project development team member, about the top five risks for mobile devices and the best ways to secure them. He told her this to start:
The definition of mobile devices is any end point, not just smartphones or laptops or USB. Everybody tends to think of mobile devices as smartphones, but we carry data in multiple ways. And they create different challenges than traditional enterprise computing, where everything is centralized and better protected. It's very hard to drop a mainframe, but it is easy for a device sitting in your back pocket to be destroyed or lost.
This slideshow highlights the top five risks posed by the use of mobile devices and how to establish security measures to protect confidential information.
