The 5 Dumbest Management Concepts of All Time | BNET

It’s a truism that “nothing is certain in this world except death, taxes and bad management.” But why? Why does bad management remain so pervasive, even after decades of MBA courses, millions of management books, and billions spent on management training?

The root of the problem lies in five basic management concepts that became popular in the 20th century and continue to propagate stupidity. As long as the business world kowtows to these obsolete management concepts, we’ll be plagued by managers who screw up.

Some of these concepts are dearly held panaceas for much of the business world. Even so, they were ill-considered and ill-conceived from the start, and should be jettisoned for the good of everybody.

Video: Google's live demo of Android 3.0 Honeycomb at CES | Tech Sanity Check | TechRepublic.com

Google made a surprise appearance at Verizon’s CES 2011 keynote on Thursday, and it turned out to be the hit of the event. Google provided a 10-minute live demo of Android 3.0 Honeycomb in action, running on the Motorola Xoom tablet.

I was sitting in the front row at the event and took this video clip of nearly the entire demo. It cuts off just 30 seconds before the demo ended, but the only thing missing is a brief video call over GoogleTalk and an abrupt closing.

Today’s show-and-tell was a much longer, more in-depth, and more impromptu demo than the 93-second video that Google released on YouTube yesterday. Google actually explains the UI, talks about some of its design decisions, shows how to navigate the tablet interface, and shows off a few of the new tablet-optimized apps.

You can watch the embedded video below or view the HD version on YouTube.
